TWILIGHT ZONE: THE LEGEND OF CITY HALL

We bring you an interesting story about Sarajevo’s City Hall.

Šekib Ramić, was a pre-war professional truck driver, one Saturday he left his home and was on his way to City Hall. While people of Sarajevo were celebrating recalled a decade of war siege, Šekib was in the Hall and he was keeping the set exhibits, war exhibits. When the trams went “to sleep”,the temporary employees guard of the City Hall heard mixed screams, noise, screams and cries. Above the set exhibits hovering shadows, quickly appearing and disappearing in the darkness behind the pillars in the hall of the center. Strange noises abated with the morning light …

“I didn’t notice anything strange. But, it’s not pleasant. Winds roar through the rubble, I hear the birds when they flew, cars. There are also those crackers, near the City Hall. But I’m not afraid, the fear in me died in 1992, and I have seen blood and flesh … You know, I fought, but there are sounds. Perhaps strange, but I’m not afraid “, he was unconvincing and disjointed Šekib after with the other workers he removed the rarities of the Sarajevo war.

Interestingly, older workers at the National Library are not surprised after hearing journalists’ questions about the ghosts that “live” in the City Hall and the comments that probably are normal human fear of the dark, of the unknown, loneliness …”Black Chronicle” of Sarajevo City Hall, began with setting up the facade in 1895. The rope that lifts a bucket of plaster cracked, and a bucket in the fall killed one worker. The next victims were the Austro-Hungarian throne Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia. Back then, hanging in the attic of the building ,where she lived, was conducted by the typist Louis County library Ksenija Karić. “She was a beautiful woman. Everyone called her Ava Gardner, ” remembers Tuleković. Workers of library were able to stop and one of their colleague who threatened by jumping from the top floor of the City Hall.

In the mid eighties, official Branko Čulić went home, he slipped and hit the back of his head on the stairs of the City Hall. Later it was rumored that he had died of a heart attack. Director Luke Ðaković died in the first days after it stopped working in City Hall, while the Director Dževad Dautović was killed in a car accident on the way from work to home. Architect Taib Hadžović was killed in 2000 during the renovation of the interior part of the City Hall, when the five tonnes of hard stairs came on him.

However, oral traditions and legends of the City Hall are extremely vivid. In the book ,, Stories of Sarajevo”, is mentioned that the mejdan carried out executions by hanging and to start hanging criminals and enemies of the Sultan’s government it was marked by shooting cannon…

It’s all about legends and interesting stories… Welcome to Sarajevo…
